Thursday 9 February 7pm The Stu Brown Sextet Drummer Stu Brown formed his band in 2008 to celebrate 100 years since the birth of band leader, composer, and inventor Raymond D Scott. His manic off-beat compositions, such as “Dinner Music for a Horde of Hungry Cannibals”, and “Square Dance for Eight Egyptian Mummies” lent themselves perfectly to the likes of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Road Runner and more recently The Simpsons. JIM MORAY Jim Moray is one of the most consistently inventive musicians working in traditional folk music today. Still only in his twenties, he has three ground-breaking and award winning albums to his name. Recording his first album ‘Sweet England’ in his bedroom, while still studying classical composition at Birmingham Conservatoire in the day and playing drums in power-pop bands by night, Jim Moray emerged onto the UK folk scene seemingly fully formed in 2003. Identical twin sisters Charlotte and Laura Carrivick from Devon have grown up playing and writing music together. Their unique style shows their strong bluegrass influences without obscuring their English roots. With tight harmonies that only siblings can achieve, they perform their original songs on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, dobro and clawhammer banjo. They have performed both in the UK and internationally, and were runners-up in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk awards in 2010.
